Dia De Muertos
'Dia De Muertos' explores the visual representation of the Mexican holiday known as Dia de Los Muertos that takes place on November 1st -2nd. This holiday is meant to remember and honor our loved ones who have passed away; it is believed that the souls of the dead can walk the earth again, and their loved ones receive them with joy and hospitality. Dia de Los Muertos has been observed since the time of the Aztecs. This holiday has lived on for many centuries, and I represented it in 2019. I choose to use Polaroid film alongside with digital, because the colors it produces adds to the magical realism atmosphere of the event. The instant film also allowed me to have something tangible and shareable with the people I photographed, which they appreciated. I wanted to show the unique modern perspective of a traditional holiday in Mexico City.
